Peart’s first attempt writing with the group was Fly By Night in 1976. The album did fairly well for the band and garnered them a Juno award for most promising new act. Though their next album Caress of Steel was hated by their fans and critics, the band was not discouraged and came back with 2112.

2112 was the bands breakthrough album, and since its release has gone 3x platinum. The band had continued success with their albums Hemispheres and Moving Pictures, which is their best selling album to date. After Moving Pictures the group went through a 80’s synthesizer period but in 1989 they returned to their guitar oriented sound. The band went on hiatus in 2005 but in 2009 they returned with their album Snakes & Arrows to much success. The group has plans on releasing their next album Clockwork Angels in 2012 and a live DVD from Cleveland in October.
